Minor Diameter too large

Solution: Select proper size from Spiralock Drill Chart

Poor spindle Alignment

Solution: Realign spindle or possibly rebuild spindle assembly to achieve accuracy required

Tapered or Bell Mouthed hole

Solution: Check that part is fixtured correctly and movement of part does not occur during tapping operation

Tap holder not concentric with spindle

Solution: Change to a rigid tool holder, if gauging is correct, then replace toolholder

Too much feed/pullout force

Solution: Decrease feed pressure, thereby letting tap freely cut at its own lead

Loading on tap teeth (metal welds on tap)

Solution: Increase amount of coolant, direct coolant to end of tap

Chips packed in flutes of tap

Solution: Clean out chips before tapping or drill minor diameter deeper to provide more area for chips

Incorrect flute hook for material being tapped

Solution: Obtain material specifications and consult Spiralock sales for correct style tap.

Gage worn undersize

Solution: Return gage to Spiralock for recertification or purchase new gage
