Threaded Inserts For Plastic And Wood Applications

Ultrasonic Threaded Inserts for Tapered Holes

These inserts are designed for use in tapered holes, which allows for rapid and accurate alignment prior to installation. With the use of high-frequency vibrations generating frictional heat at the metal to plastic interface, the plastic melts slightly and flows into the knurled serrations, barbs and undercuts.  The molten plastic will then resolidify leaving the insert securely fit in place. Ultrasonic installations of inserts offer higher torsional and pullout properties than cold press-fit methods.

Ultrasonic Threaded Inserts for Straight Holes

These inserts are designed for use in straight holes for which a self-aligning lead-in provides for accurate alignment prior to installation.

Molded Blind Threaded Inserts (Fractional Sizes):

These inserts are designed to have the plastic molded around them in the mold cavity. This process involves the placement of “core pins” into the minor diameter of the inserts prior to molding the plastic. Once the molding operation is complete, the “core pins” are removed, leaving the insert encapsulated into the plastic. The mold-in method offers better adhesion of plastic to the insert, thereby providing higher torsional and pullout properties than most secondary operations.

Post-Molded Threaded Inserts

These inserts are press-fit into a drilled or molded hole after the molding process has been completed. The process of press-fitting inserts allows users to install inserts without the use of heat or ultrasonics. This is accomplished by placing the insert into the appropriate hole size and driving it into place with a simple press. The “barbed” configuration of these inserts displaces the plastic as it travels into the hole. The plastic then springs back into the grooves between barbs, providing pull-out resistance.

Threaded Inserts for Wood and Similar Soft Materials

These inserts are internally threaded with Spiralock and externally threaded for self-tapping installation.  Inserts are installed in wood and other comparatively soft materials to provide strong permanent threads as they are driven into previously drilled hole. These high quality die-cast inserts come with a Hex in one end for Hex-drive installation and its specially designed fluted external threads provide a balanced cutting action.
